Olivia Newton John would be proud of London-based designer and artist Fabrice Le Nezet’s neon print series “Spring/Summer 2012”. 16 small animated figures are servings late 80’s aerobic women realness in print clad lycra, leotards and fuzzy pink leg warmers.

Melbourne-based artist Miranda Skoczek’s fantastical paintings reveal the narrative between extreme realities and imagination. Her work is loaded with stylistic motifs like memory, decorative identification, whilst hinting to issues related to domesticity and introspection.

Mother of Pearl by Maia Norman is an innovative clothing label that blends art with fashion. Each season the brand collaborates with artists (like Polly Morgan, Keith Tyson and Gary Hume) into their designs through print. The labels Spring/Summer 2013 collection features work by Italian artist Francesco Simeti; think Carol Brady meets Chanel.

Australian design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales behind Romance Was Born, have once again exceeded fashion heights with their pre-collection Miraculous Mundane. Miraculous indeed, the duo have drawn inspiration from psychedelic Willy Wonka and dreamlike Australian artist Stephen Bush to create a whirlwind of colour, candy and chaos.

AAKASH NIHALANI

We're absolutely entranced with these photographs by New York & Sydney photographer Amanda Simone. Simone's website describes her as 'fascinated by modern masculinity her exhibited work intelligently exposes primal responses and tribal conditioning,' which we can clearly see through this editorial she shot for VMAN, entitled 'Work Out'. RACHEL WHITEREAD

While the monolithic works that sculptor Rachel Whiteread became famous for can cost millions to transport, the contents of her latest show can be folded up and put in a back pocket. Whiteread has opened her sketchbook to display a collection of drawings which contain the idiosyncratic use of negative space she is known for, just on a more human scale.

KARLA BLACK

Karla Black’s work has a tendency to make one feel like they’ve entered another world. The sculptor represented Scotland in the 2011 Venice Biennale and her multi-room installation in an old palazzo was a dreamy pastel vision, the wafting clouds of cellophane and powder offset by neatly raked dirt floors and peeling paint of the building.

Amazing designers Mother Of Pearl have created yet another timeless and beyond beautiful collection. 

This time around they have collaborated with New York based artist Fred Tomaselli, who is most famous for his hyperdelic collages.  
This might just be our favourite collab yet! 

AMY LONGWORTH

One gets the impression that it must be exhausting being Amy Longworth. The Brisbane-based artist has her fingers in many pies, working across installation, drawing, collage, sculpture and video and collaborating with the fashion, music and film worlds.

SECRET SPACES

Whilst browsing around Brunswick Street in Brisbane I stumbled upon the Edwina Corlette Gallery space. It must have been my lucky day because the VEXTA exhibition was still on and I had been swooning over the psychedelic, geometric crystal prints for a while. Needless to say it did not disappoint and neither did the minimalist, chic gallery space. 

CHANGE OF ART

PITCH loves supporting and showcasing local talent, and you don't get any more local then Fortitude Valley. Abigael Whittaker is an emerging artist (based in Brisbane, obviously) with a passion for figurative painting and illustrations. She is currently represented by the dreamy 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace, and believe me after viewing her work you will understand why, all the whilst being left with a whole new appreciation for art.  Unfortunately the majority of her work has already been sold to the 'Art Gallery' elite with prices ranging from $500 to $3000. It's safe to say though, that when you purchase a piece of Abigael's art you are buying into something much more valuable then just measly paint on canvas. There is much more passion and depth that lies beneath the surface of each painting, invested straight from Abigael's artistic soul.
