MBFF: FASHION GRADUATE OF THE YEAR

PITCH was fortunate enough to attend the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane this year. We were more then impressed by the incredible designs that featured in the fashion graduate of the year show, as well as in the emerging designers showcase. Carlie Waterman was the deserving winner from the graduate show and had a show stopping collection that was purely inspired. 

GRAZ EYEWEAR SHOWCASE

Sunglasses are generally not acceptable attire for a gloomy winter evening – unless, that is, they’re being tried on by fashionable folk eager to get their hands on the wares of cult eyewear designer Graz.

HOUSE OF CARDS TRUNK SHOW

On Tuesday night, PITCH Editor Christie Morgan and I attended the House of Cards trunk showing at The End Bar. On arrival we were greeted with a spread of sangria and decadently-decorated cupcakes. The atmosphere was fashionably relaxed and casual, as was the attire worn by attendees.

 House of Cards, the newly born baby of designer Ashiya Omundsen, strives to innovate wearable everyday fashions without forgoing individuality and imagination. Ashiya’s latest collection features creations inspired by 60s American rock band The Beach Boys and was brought to life with warm ‘summer-ish’ pastels. The designs are young, flirty and fun; the collection combining harmonious colour-blocking, daring paisley and amusing oceanic prints. Its pieces combine style with everyday functionality for the girl on-the-go, from effortlessly elegant high-waisted shorts to 60s/retro-style dress silhouettes.

 

 

Kudos to Ashiya and her accomplished team, the night was an absolute success and an enlightening insight into House of Cards‘ bright-bright future.  You can expect to see the latest from House of Cards in Brisbane stores and boutiques by late August to early September.

Hailing from our little town of Brisbane, Francis Leon -  an amazing crew of designers, has created an exceptional collection entitled Seven. With some beautiful leather pieces and some enticing knits, it's no wonder we love it so much.
