A DESIGNER'S PREDICAMENT

While big names such as Comme de Garcon, Rick Owens and Proenza Schouler have made their mark in fashion history, at a smaller scale, unrivalled talents of young and emerging independent designers are waiting for their turn to be discovered and supported by retailers and big investors. Sadly, these young talents spark into fashion's limelight to sink or shine.

Many agree emerging independent designers are the lifeblood of fashion industry. Their work offers fresh approaches and heavy experimentation on different angles of what is already available in the market. These young bloods still treat design as a form of art and hobby instead of a simplistic profit-making engine. Hence, buyers are generally paying fewer amounts of dollars for high quality products and distinct look. Unfortunately, many are still struggling to be discovered and the dream to create has vanished.

With a rise of fashion blogging, people from around the world including Australia are hungry to see individual looks that differentiate them from the crowd. This phenomenon is one of the many reasons why consumers should opt for independent designer pieces.

Along with her vision to support these creative souls, Della Pohan owner of Rawmowe.com, has engaged international talents from London, Jakarta and New York to exhibit their collection at her online shop. Based in Melbourne, Rawmowe was established to challenge its buyers to get the ultimate individual look. The idea is to marry the edginess works of independent designers and buyer’s intuitive sense of style.

Pieces found from Rawmowe are the signature of the individual designers. “Ann Yee, a designer from New York really invested in luxurious materials to create pieces that just melt into your body and accentuate your figure. Her design is a combination of subtle draping, innovative silhouettes and sumptuous knitwear. While our Indonesian designers offers bold and edgy cuts, our UK designer Charlotte Taylor has a different approach and play more towards colour contrasts and exciting prints on luxurious matte silk.” Explained Della. The key is to be as experimental as you can as most fashion pieces from Rawmowe offers daring and interesting silhouette.

Starting out with a handful of brands, Rawmowe hopes to support these great talents for the long haul and bringing more designers that have not yet been introduced in Australia
